04/29/2018 - College PREP - Plymouth Meeting (Philadelphia), PA Ashton continues to shine on the diamond. At the plate, power potential is now well above average through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (81 mph exit velocity) and work to and through an aggressive swing path. He has leverage and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. In the OF, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through well with momentum to his target. Glove action is soft and he presents well, utilizing two hands through the process. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. Ashton has a lot of potential and is a sure player to follow.

04/23/2017 - College PREP - Plymouth Meeting (Philadelphia), PA Ashton continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has the makings of a special type player. In the OF, defensive abilities have improved, displaying smooth / fluid actions. He takes proper routes / angles in working to get behind balls and plays through well with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with throws displaying accuracy and carry. At the plate, hitting / power has improved as well through an athletic setup. He has strength in his swing with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Hands are quick and stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop.

10/05/2016 - Arizona Freshman/Sophomore Fall Classic Ashton continues to show steady progress in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. In the OF, he reads balls well off the bat and utilizes his athletic feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles. Range is a plus as he covers a lot of ground. He works behind the baseball and plays through with momentum to his target and gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate he shows a closed setup and good plate discipline. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best he can be.

02/14/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Brentwood (Long Island), NY Ashton is a hard worker who continues to develop. In the OF, he has a ton of speed (60 in 6.81) covering a ton of ground. He works behind and through the ball aggressively gaining ground toward his target. Offensively, Ashton stands in well with fluid rhythm to load. Hands are quick as he whips the barrel through the zone and connects with strength. Swinging on a shorter/more direct path will help to tap into even more power potential. Ashton has tools (2019 grad) with still a ton of time to progress and get stronger.

12/27/2015 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Ashton is a coachable player who worked hard and made adjustments quickly to his game. Defensively, he takes a quick first step and tracks down fly-balls to his right and left with speed. He secures the ball and works through it well gaining ground in-line toward his target. Continuing to strengthen his arm (long toss) will aid in his development in the OF. As a hitter, Ashton steps into the box looking to swing it. He has active hands getting back loaded with good separation. He battled at the plate and put the bat on the ball consistently. Swinging on a shorter/more direct path with more bat speed will result in increased power. Only a 2019 grad - Ashton still has a ton of time to physically mature and develop his skills.

08/18/2015 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Ashton is an athletic OF who graduates in 2019. Defensively, he displays active footwork taking a quick 1st step. He tracks down fly-balls with speed - running the 60 in 6.99. Solid routes/angles put himself into a good position behind the play ball. With the bat, Ashton has a square setup with rhythm in his hands and good balance. He tracks the ball into the zone, whips the barrel on a level path and drives the ball back up the middle of the field. More lower 1/2 drive along with creating more extension through the finish will help to tap into more power potential. Ashton is a well-rounded player who has a bright future ahead of him in the game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
