11/08/2018 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Ashton continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.70 with accuracy on his throws. Feet are active working in line through a clean transfer / exchange. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to get rid of the baseball quicker. Glove action is soft as he sticks balls well in the zone but will benefit by presenting a lower target. He uses his body well through the blocking process but needs to get body down sooner. At the plate, hitting abilities have improved through a squared / athletic setup. Hands are strong and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact with power showing best to the pull side through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable, works hard to be the best player he can be, and plays with a lot of energy.

05/27/2018 - College PREP - Salem, OR Ashton is a hardworking 3B/C prospect who has a versatile skill set. In the field, Ashton plays the right way and makes the routine plays. He fields the ball in a high position and has quick glove actions. Ashton has a quick exchange leading into a long arm action throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. His throws are accurate and he is developing arm strength. Offensively, Ashton has a tall setup with his weight in the back of his stance. He has good rhythm with a long stride as he partially uses his lower half throughout his swing. Ashton gives great effort in his ABs and shows a long swing path. He is a contact type hitter who looks to put the ball in play. Behind the plate, Ashton works hard and stays square to the pitcher. He receives the ball with a stiff glove. He has a long exchange leading into a restricted arm action throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. Overall, Ashton is a well-rounded prospect who has potential to get better with development.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
