11/06/2020 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition in Arizona This athletic 2-way player continues to progress and showed well out in Arizona. In the MIF, defensive abilities have improved as he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. Throws are accurate with carry (82 mph velocity) across the diamond. At the plate, power potential is now well above average through a squared setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. At the event, he was 3 for 8 with a 2B and a 3B. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 79 mph. Fastball shows good arms side run. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable. Ashton has a solid skill-set with upside as he approaches he junior season.

06/14/2019 - Baseball Factory Select Training at the College World Series (Ages 14-18) Ashton is a hardworking and talented 2022 2-way prospect. In the OF, Ashton starts in an athletic fielding position and works behind the ball. He is aggressive on ground balls and makes accurate throws. He needs to continue to be on time with his prep step and improve his first step to the ball. At the plate, Ashton has a simple load, keeps a quiet head, recognizes pitches out of the zone. He needs to continue to attack the inside part of the ball and make consistent contact on the fastball. On the bump, Ashton works out of the stretch and attacks in. He gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and works north to south. He needs to continue to have confidence in his fastball and work at a quicker tempo. Ashton will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
