Official Scouting Report

  • RHPPosition Projection

12/19/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Thousand Oaks, CA Ashton is a RHP who will graduate in 2022. Tall frame stout build with strength present. On the mound, he has long levers and a projectible frame. He gathers over the rubber, with good balance at the top, and has an easy/clean arm stroke. Has a relaxed demeanor and good feel for pitching. Attacks hitters with a FB that sat 76-78mph with plus command, a 10/4 shaped slider with medium break, and a changeup with arm side run that he throws with FB arm speed. CH was best pitch during his bullpen session. At the plate, he hits from an upright and open stance. Smooth timing to his swing with quickness to his hands. A direct barrel path enables him to spray balls to all fields with a bat exit velocity up to 80mph. With another year of development, we foresee Ashton having a bright future on the baseball field.

07/27/2021 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (HS) Ashton is a coachable RHP/1B prospect who worked hard on his skills during the National World Series at Pirate City. In the field, Ashton shows efficient footwork and moves well laterally. He gets into a low position and fields the ball out in front with soft hands. His exchange is clean and he gains ground well on his throws, keeping them accurate/strong through his target. Taking a quicker first step can help Ashton make more plays. At the plate, this LHH sets up in a square stance and takes a soft stride. He gets into a small load and extends through the baseball well, driving the ball to his pull side. Ashton can generate more pop off the barrel by driving his lower half more. On the mound, Ashton gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works inline toward the plate and extends through his release, finishing with a controlled landing. Ashton operates with a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 77mph with sinking action. Breaking ball sits from 63-65mph with 10-4 break. Taking a smaller rock step can help Ashton improve his pitch command. Overall, Ashton is a solid prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

06/10/2021 - All-In Membership - Irvine (Los Angeles), CA Ashton is a tall RHP prospect who will graduate in 2022. On the mound, Ashton gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and stays inline toward the plate, finishing with his chest over his front knee. Ashton operates with a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 77mph. Breaking ball sits from 63-66mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 70-74mph with late arm side run and sinking action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Extending through his release more can help Ashton improve his pitch command and velocity. At the plate, this LHH sets up in a tall stance and takes a short stride. He is smooth to load and drives through well with his lower half. He works through a level swing with good extension, producing line drives to all fields. Ashton can generate more pop off the barrel by getting more separation in his load. Overall, Ashton is a solid prospect who has the time and potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
