12/27/2017 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) Atticus is a solid, strong catcher who has a tremendous future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying solid power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (87 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive approach. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. He has strength in his swing with plus barrel accuracy, showing gap-to-gap pop. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Behind the plate, feet are aggressive and active as he works in line to his target, through a clean transfer / exchange and gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times showed in the 2.17 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Glove action is soft and he sticks in the zone through a solid setup. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to work to get down quicker. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard. With 5 years to further develop, Atticus has the makings of a special type player with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
