06/29/2016 - 2016 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National West Sylk continues to show a big upside on the bump. He had a solid showing at the event. He attacks hitters, throwing a lot of strikes as he works to get ahead of hitters through a quick tempo. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 87 mph. Fastball showed solid cutting action. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for. Arm action is quick and free, working well to the plate.

09/26/2015 - 2015 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Futures West Sylk stands at 6-foot-3 and 180 pounds with length to his frame, and ran his fastball up to 83 mph. He pitched in the 79-82 mph and spun at breaking ball around 70 mph with medium depth to 2-to-8 shape. He gathered over the rubber well and broke his hands on time to allow his arm to work behind him. He generated some quickness out front through release, giving him a chance for improved stuff as he improves his direction - tends to get closed off upon landing, not allowing for a consistent release out front. Overall, a quick armed left-hander with upside based on physical maturity and potential mechanical improvement.

07/20/2015 - 2015 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National West Sylk had a solid showing at the event on the mound. He attacks hitters, throwing a lot of strides as he works to get ahead of hitters through a quick tempo. He does a nice job of controlling the running game as he holds runners well. Fastball showed in the low 80 range with solid arm side run. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with arm side run. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained through a long toss program.

01/16/2015 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Sylk continues to show plus abilities on the mound. Arm action is quick, loose and works well to the plate as he hides the ball well. Fastball showed a range of 81-85 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with short / sharp break and shows as a quality pitch that will get outs at the next level. He shows off his athletic abilities as he fields his position well and shows a promising future on the mound.

12/14/2014 - College PREP - Monterey Park (Los Angeles), CA Augie is a sophomore southpaw with strong mechanics and a live arm. He gathered over the rubber, separated on-time, and delivered with loose/free arm action and front side extension. He tucked his glove, kept his eyes on the target and finished chest over front knee. His FB showed run from 82-85 and he spun a 2/8 CB with sharp action and late break at 62-65. In all - Augie is one of the top prospects in his class and with almost three years left to develop a third pitch, will project as a SP at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
