12/27/2019 - Baseball Factory West Coast Winter Classic (Ages 12-14) Austen is an athletic and talented 2-way prospect that worked hard to make adjustments all week. Behind the dish, Austen starts in an athletic primary stance, he presents a low/early glove, and tries to work behind the ball. When, blocking he tries to square the ball up with his chest but he needs to continue to lead with his glove and improve his lateral mobility. When throwing, he has a two handed exchange, he has proper footwork, and a strong arm. At the plate, Austen starts in an open stance and loads his hands back into the drive position. He has a flat bat and is a line drive hitter. He needs to continue to attack the inside part of the ball, rotate his lower half, and improve his bat speed. On the bump, Austen has confidence in his fastball and throws his curveball down in the zone. He finds a balance point, separates on time, and stays in line toward the plate. Austen will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.
