01/22/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Delray Beach, FL Austen continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 73 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with loose spin and very short break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. In the OF, he displays smooth / athletic actions. He utilizes his feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles and utilizes two hands well through the fielding process. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, he improved his hitting abilities through a squared setup with balance. Hands are loose and work through an aggressive swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently.

07/24/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Austen showed as both an OF/RHP at the Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City. Offensively, he had an athletic setup with decent balance, and tracked the ball deep through the zone. He generated some bat speed to hit, and worked to use more of his lower half in coordination with his hands for greater pop. Defensively, he made the routine plays with a good idea of the proper footwork, and his hands played sure. He needs to continue working on foot speed/agility to become more explosive, and should attack the baseball with more aggression to continue being successful as the game speeds up. On the hill, he threw his FB from 61-64, and threw his CH from 56-59. He kept his eyes on the target and had good balance through his delivery. There is more velocity in his frame and in his lower half, as he begins to boost his tempo and drive more aggressively in-line to the catcher. In all - Austen has time to develop strength and explosiveness to add to his fundamental skill.

05/25/2015 - Interactive Video Program - Jupiter, FL Austen is a (2019 grad) 2-way player as a RHP/OF. On the bump, this righty has a 3-putch mix (FB, CB, CH) coming from a high 3/4 arm slot. He works to a tall balance point, keeps his eyes on the target and works in-line toward the dish. He has sound mechanics and repeats his delivery. FB ranges from 61-64 mph while breaking ball shows 9/3 shape. In the OF, Austen has quick footwork and is aggressive to track down balls hit to his right and left. He secures the FB at it's highest point, gathers well and makes accurate throws into his target. With the bat, this RHH shows a balanced approach with rhythm in his hands. He delivers the barrel with some bat speed, connects and drives the ball with pop. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Pitching
1. Arm strength (long toss)
2. Lower 1/2 drive
3. Finish with extension
Defense
1. Routes/Angles
2. Play through the ball
Offense
1. Contact points
2. Level out swing path
3. Extension

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
