07/10/2017 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Austin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 2B, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are aggressive in attacking balls but needs to play through more with his body. Glove action is soft / clean but will benefit by presenting more out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turns of the double play. At the plate, he continues to as a switch hitter with hitting / power potential improving and showing similar abilities from both sides. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing with power showing best to the pull side. At the event, he was 3 for 6. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be. With 5 years to further develop, Austin has the makings of a special type player with time and room to progress his game.

01/29/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Kapolei (Honolulu), HI Austin is a 2B/C who will graduate in 2022. In the infield, he gets into an athletic fielding position and moves well from right to left. His hands are soft as he funnels Gb's with a clean exchange to throw. Behind the plate, this C is quick on his feet. He sticks pitches with a soft glove and makes on line, accurate throws down to 2B. With the bat, Austin has a smooth stroke. He sees the ball well showing good strike zone awareness as he whips his bat quickly through the zone with speed. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Infield
1. Prep step
2. Play through the ball
3. Arm strength
Catching
1. Solid base
2. Earn more strikes
3. Quicker to block

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
