05/26/2019 - College PREP - Keizer (Salem), OR Austin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. He showed only on the mound at the event. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 81 mph. Fastball showed a range of 77-81 mph on a downhill plane. Slider displays 11/5 shape with late / sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for pitch with arm side run. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, hitting / power potential are now well above average through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (82 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop.

12/20/2018 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Austin is a strong and talented 2020 2-way prospect that worked hard all week. At the hot corner, Austin is on time with his prep step, he reads the ball off the bat, and has a good first step to the ball. He has a strong arm and makes accurate throws across the diamond. At the plate, Austin start in an open stance, rotates his back hip to the ball, and keeps his head down at contact. He needs to continue to get his front foot down on time, load his hands back into the drive position, and attack the inside part of the ball. On the bump, Austin has good mound presence and isn't afraid to pitch inside. He gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and works downhill. Austin will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
