09/26/2010 - College PREP - McKees Rocks, PA Austin showed similar skills in the INF as he did in previous workouts. At SS, Austin plays through the ball properly and has a quick exchange. His hands and feet play well and he works the double play nicely. Austin has a consistent arm slot and throws accurately to his target. Defensive grades can get better if he can widen his base and get his glove down sooner. Offensively, Austin has good balance and a solid set-up. He has a balanced approach, swings in good rhythm, and can hit to all fields. Hitting grades can further improve if Austin can add strength and make better use of his lower 1/2.

06/17/2010 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 1 Austin is a young, thin, middle INF that will graduate in 2012. Defensively, Austin has sound fundamentals and he makes plays on balls hit his way. He has a good, clean glove, and a good release. Austin delivers the ball accurately to his target, and with added arm strength and work turning the double plays his defensive grades will get better. At the plate, Austin has a short / compact swing and can work the ball gap to gap. He has a good knowledge of the zone and he puts the ball in play. Hitting can get better with improved rhythm, more aggressiveness, and added upper body strength.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
