Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3BPosition Projection

03/20/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Oklahoma City , OK Austin is a 3B in the class of 2023. At the plate, he showed power potential with exit velos up to 89 MPH. Hit from a tall stance. Did a good job repeating his set-up and load. Created consistent hard contact with help from his lower ½ getting through the baseball. Worked gap to gap and got his barrel on plane early. In the field, he showed active and effective feet with the ability to cover ground. Showed good hand presentation out front with clean transfers. Loose arm action, that was up to 90 MPH, and momentum through the baseball helped create good throws. Austin is a good player that we hope to see more of in the future.

06/21/2021 - USA Baseball 17U Championships Austin is a 3B/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2023. Tall frame, with long levers and projectible frame, and athletic build with strength present with a lot of room to fill out. At 3B, he passes the eye test with his size and starts in a relaxed position. Square fielding position, as he tries to field out front, and showed good actions to his backhand side. Clean transfer into a high 3/4 release point, with accurate throws, and has good carry. Austin did not pitch during this tournament. A left-handed hitter, he starts with a square and upright stance. Loose hands, with a simple load, and showed ability to rear hip through. Strength in swing as he hit balls hard to the pull side with a wood bat exit velocity of 86mph. Reached base 6 times, with 4 singles and 2 HBP, and added 5 RBI's. With continued growth and development, we foresee him having opportunities to play at the next level.

01/15/2021 - 2021 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament (TX) Austin is a talented/athletic/projectable (3B/RHP) who continues to shine and did so again at the Pre-Season All-America Tournament. With the bat is where he excels. He stands in well with an athletic setup, centered balance and fluid rhythm to load. Quick hands whip the barrel on a short/direct path as he connects with strength, creating consistent/hard contact. At 3B, he comes to get the GB and works into an athletic fielding position. Hands are soft as he funnels to a clean transfer to throw. Buie also has the ability to get onto the mound and compete. He works to a controlled balance point, stays directional and fires from a quick arm acton and 3/4 arm slot. He works his FB to both sides of the plate while mixing in a 11/5 shape CB that has good downward tilt. He pounds the zone and challenges hitters to swing the bat. Only a 2023 grad - the future looks very bright for Austin as he's one to watch over the next couple of years.

09/23/2020 - Arizona Sophomore Fall Classic Austin continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action and presents well out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve his foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to shine through an open setup. Hands are quick (86 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 80 mph. Fastball showed a range of 78-80 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

09/04/2020 - HS All-Region Tournament Austin continues to shine on the diamond with improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate, he shows a tall, open setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields and has strength in his swing with gap-to-gap pop. At 3B, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 80 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

07/14/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Sauget (St. Louis), IL Austin is a talented/projectable (6'4"/200) 3B who has a ton of upside. Defensively, he has active prep creating good angles right to left around the GB. Hands are soft/sure as he presents and funnels smoothly to a clean transfer/exchange. As a hitter, he displays an athletic setup with rhythm to load tracking pitches into the zone. Barrel delivery is quick with + bat speed as he connects and hits line-drives showing pop to his pull-side. Buie is a talented (2023 grad) who has a bright future ahead of him in the game.

10/16/2019 - Arizona Freshman Fall Classic Austin is a tall, strong 1B/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the event. In the field, he shows active footwork and presents his glove out front to field. He has a quick release and allows his throws to remain accurate and carry (83 mph velocity) through his target. Austin can improve as a 1B by improving his footwork around the bag and increasing foot / quickness. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride to the ball. He is smooth getting into his load and comes through the zone well with his lower half. He takes a direct swing to the ball with fast bat speed (83 mph exit velocity) which leads to hard contact. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 72-74 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

09/15/2019 - College PREP - Kansas City, KS Austin is an athletic 3B who will graduate in 2023 and has a promising future on the diamond. At 3B, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls but needs to play through more with his body. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to shine through a tall, closed setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach, flashing gap-to-gap pop. With 4 years to further develop, Austin has potential with time and room to continue to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
