11/29/2015 - National Tryout Plus - Davie, FL Burke stands at 5-foot-9 and 150 pounds with athletic proportions. His actions in general are athletic, and he has good body control across the board as well. At the plate, he has some rhythm to hit and maintains good balance from both sides of the plate. His right-handed stroke appears to be dominated by his top hand, with a tendency to cut it off across his body. He showed hand-eye coordination and ability to manipulate the barrel to allow for contact to all fields. From the left side, his stroke is looser and more natural looking with the path, but without the bat speed he generated right-handed. Defensively in the infield, he reacted well to the ball off the bat and took a productive first step. His hands worked very well to receive the ball, and stood out with his ability to catch & throw coming through the ball. His ability to make throws exceeds his pure arm strength, and arm strength appears to be his main area for improvement at this point. Overall, a talented player with well-rounded skills.

05/24/2015 - College PREP - Wappinger Falls, NY Burke continues to show as a SS/OF with improvements in his baseball abilities and a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.09 runner. In the OF, defensive abilities have improved as well, displaying clean / smooth actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and works to get behind balls, playing through well with momentum to his target. Feet are quick / light as he reads balls well off the bat, displaying range. At SS, he utilizes his quick feet well in his lateral movement, displaying range in the MIF. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turns of the double plays. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he attacks balls more and plays through while presenting hands more out front. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to show as switch hitter and has improved his hitting / power grades from the left side where he projects best. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path through an aggressive approach. He has pop in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more efficiently.

11/08/2014 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 14-18) Commuter Austin is a hard worker who has a willingness to learn. He has made improvements on both sides of the plate. He displays a balanced approach with rhythm. He remains level through the zone and fluid at contact, tracking the ball of of the barrel. At times his swing tended to be long and around the ball. Working to swing on a shorter/more direct path will result in more consistent, hard contact. Austin is a coachable player who should see success at the plate.

09/28/2014 - National Tryout - Scranton, PA Austin showed improvement from his previous Factory event raising all of his grades. He shaved down his 60-time to 7.26, H-1B on both sides, and his velocity topped out at 74 mph. At SS, he works with momentum towards his target and has a clean exchange. In the OF, he does a great job of delivering consistent throws hitting his cutoff. His athletic actions and good lateral movement make him a reliable defender. At the plate, he has now opened up his stance a little, making him square to the pitcher. He has a level swing from both sides and has equaled out his hitting abilities to make him a threat from both sides of the dish.

11/10/2011 - Pirate City Select Training - 2011 (Pre HS) Austin is a 2016 graduate who plays middle infield. He has better than average arm strength/accuracy and throws well on the run. As a fielder he is very athletic and has good range. He has an athletic fielding position (tends to get too high), his timing is good, footwork is quick/active and his feeds/pivots are solid. Austin needs to work on getting better reads off the bat and keep his hands out in front of his body when fielding ground balls. At the plate he has a tall set-up, short stride and average bat speed. Austin needs to work on his balance primarily but he also wraps his bat and he needs to finish his swing. Overall Austin is a solid player and if he makes the adjustments he needs to he should have success in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
