Official Scouting Report

  • 1B/OFPosition Projection

09/26/2021 - All-In Membership - Jupiter, FL Austin is an athletic 1B/OF prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the diamond. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a square stride. He gets into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He generates fast bat speed through the zone and shows great pull side pop. Austin can create more consistent contact by maintaining center balance throughout his swing. In the field, Austin covers ground well and makes the routine plays. He throws from a side arm angle and works to keep his throws accurate to his target. Getting into a more athletic fielding position can help Austin field ground balls more efficiently. Overall, Austin is a solid prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

07/25/2021 - All-In Membership - Frederick, MD Austin is a RHP/1B who will graduate in 2023. Tall frame, with long levers, athletic build and some strength present with a lot of room to fill out. On the mound, this right-handed pitcher has long levers and projectible frame. He gathers over the rubber and incorporates his lower half. Picks up target early and gets chest over front knee. Works off his FB that was up to 76mph with some movement in the strike zone. Mixed in an 11/5 breaking ball with tight spin and good depth. Throws a developing changeup that has some tailing action in zone. CB was his best pitch during his bullpen. At 1B, starts with a good pre-pitch routine and works to center baseball. Spins glove side on his throws to second base. Good carry on his throws across the diamond. Showed good bag awareness during his workout. At the plate, this right-handed hitter hits from an upright and open stance. Quiet head/eyes enable him to track pitches well. Showed good rhythm to swing, with a simple load and a short stride into contact. Hits into a firm front side, with intent in swing, and late bat whip. Hit balls hard to the pull side with a bat exit velocity of 85mph during BP. With continued growth and development, we see this 2-way prospect having opportunities to play at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
