06/29/2016 - 2016 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National South Austin is a middle infielder who has a promising future on the diamond. At SS, he has plus lateral range, working from the ground-up with smooth actions. Transfer is quick as he fires strong throws zipping across the diamond. At the plate - he has strong/centered balance with fluid rhythm to load. He takes an absolute hack - crushing the ball to the deep parts of the park (exit velocity = 80 mph). A projectable SS - Austin will play at a very high level and make an immediate impact.

04/10/2016 - College PREP - Bel Air (Baltimore), MD Austin is a solid/athletic RHH MIF prospect. As a hitter - he shows a balanced setup with a strong base. He has active hands with rhythm to load. Swing is quick as he whips the barrel on a level path, connecting and driving the ball on a line back up the middle of the field. Defensively, Austin displays athletic/fluid actions moving smoothly from right to left. He works low from the ground-up, funnels well and has a quick release firing strong/accurate throws across the diamond. Austin is a solid all-around athlete who will make an impact when he steps onto the field.

07/08/2015 - College PREP - Washington DC, MD Austin continues to show well in the MIF. Defensively, this athletic SS has active prep footwork and moves well on the balls of his feet. He works from right to left, funnels smoothly and has a clean exchange to throw. He works the DP quickly/efficiently getting rid of the ball (arm velocity at 82 mph). At the plate, this righty shows rhythm in his hands and gets back into a loaded position. Barrel delivery is quick as he swings with authority, creating pop off of the barrel. Chavis has progressed nicely and still has a couple of years to continue to develop.

12/27/2014 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Austin is an athletic MIF who showed well during his time in Pirate City. Defensively, he shows quick/active footwork as he hustles around the ground ball. He fields it with soft/sure hands, gathers well and works in-line toward his target at 1B, firing accurate throws. With the bat, this RHH has a balanced setup with patience, tracking the ball into the zone (drawing 4 walks at the event). He shows plus barrel accuracy and squares it up, utilizing his lower 1/2 well in the swing. Working to take the pitch on the outer 1/2 the other way will help to improve his abilities at the plate. Austin is a good teammate who brings a positive attitude and hard working mentality to the diamond.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
