07/30/2014 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Austin showed consistency and growth since his previous outing with Baseball Factory. Offensively, he was balanced, got his hands activated to launch, and had fluidity to hit. He generated good bat speed and barrel accuracy with a strong lower half. Staying extended through with his top hand and direct with the barrel will increase hard hit frequency. Defensively, he came and got the ball well and fielded with his hands in front. He was sure with the glove and accurate with his arm to throw. He worked around the ball well, but needs to speed up his feet and strengthen his arm to ensure his time at SS at the next level. All in all - Austin is a good player that works hard and has a chance to be a very strong hitter.

05/25/2014 - National Tryout - Murfreesboro (Nashville), TN Dunston has really improved his baseball abilities since the last time that we saw him. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date and will benefit by continuing to increase foot quickness. Defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active as he works to square balls up while displaying soft /sure hands. He gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he has improved his hitting / power grades, now showing slightly above average through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed and works to stay on top of the baseball. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grades will continue to improve as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields.

12/27/2012 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Vero Beach Austin continues to show improvement in his overall game. He has shown improvements in his hands fielding sure handed while maintaining an athletic fielding position. He can improve by keeping his chest over when fielding to the forehand and backhand side. Austin can focus on being aggressive to the ball and improve foot speed. At the plate Austin showed a very patient approach. He did a good job working counts deep being selective on his pitch. He showed that he has the ability to drive the ball the opposite field with hard contact. Austin can continue to focus on more flexibility from his lower body to get better rotation. Overall, Austin showed that he is working hard and staying on track. With high school down the road continue to focus on the areas above to continue to improve.

06/22/2012 - Maryland Select Training & Competition Austin is a 2017 graduate who plays 2nd base. In the field, Austin has firm hands and active footwork. He has an athletic fielding position and fields the ball out front. He shows playable range and makes clean and sound feeds and pivots around the bag. At the plate, Austin sets up tall and has a smooth load. His stride is short and centered and he uses his lower half well. His bat speed is fast for his age and me makes hard consistent contact at the plate. He needs to develop a more short and consistent swing path. Austin showed a lot of pop off of his bat and has a great approach. Overall he is a talented player for his age and would like to see him to continue to work on his game as he could be an impact player at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
