Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/SSPosition Projection

01/18/2019 - 2019 Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Austin is an athletic 2022 2-way prospect. At SS, Austin starts in an athletic position and is aggressive to the ball. He has a three-quarter slot and makes accurate throws. At the plate, Austin starts in an open stance and loads his hands back into the drive position. In game he has a middle approach but he needs to continue recognize pitches and be aggressive on fastballs. On the bump, Austin gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and works north to south in his delivery. He has a plus curveball and challenges hitters. Austin is a hard worker and we hope to see his progress in the future.

10/07/2018 - College PREP - Washington, PA Austin is a lean, athletic two-way prospect who looks the part on the mound. He shows a very advanced pitch arsenal with an already devastating changeup that is his out pitch. He has control of all three pitches and can use both sides of the plate and throw any pitch in any count to keep hitters off balance. His fastball reaches 70mph and he compliments it with a sharp 11-5 curve and the excellent changeup. At short, he fields from the right with momentum to first. He gets square and centers the ball to make clean plays on balls hit to him. At the dish, his swing is simple and repeatable to make consistent contact and put the ball in play. He loads to a stacked position and launches his swing to spray hits to all fields. Improving his bat speed will lead to more hard contact. Austin is a player we definitely want to continue watching.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
