  • LHP/OFPosition Projection

12/27/2007 - Christmas Camp and Tournament - 2007 Fox is a left handed pitcher with a fluid, sound delivery. He maintained good direction, and showed glimpses of good tempo - must work hold at balance point longer, to allow arm to work better on the back side. Will help with a more consistent release point out front. His best fastballs and breaking balls came when stayed behind the ball longer, and got the release farther out front. As a position player, he showed an overall better set of tools than we saw before. He ran 7.16 in the 60-yard dash, down from the 7.26 we had before. His arm and fielding ability showed better, and his hitting ability and power grades went up as well. Overall, he is a potential two-way player at the college level.

08/26/2007 - College PREP - Indianapolis, IN Austin has pretty good body control in the OF. His footwork needs to lighten and quicken up, and would like to see him get rid of the ball quicker as well. He does a good job of throwing the ball downhill. At the plate, he stands in tall. His prep work is late so he tends to bar out early. But he gets good extension and has above average bat speed. He hits with some backspin and keeps a line drive approach. On the mound, Austin has a good downhill plane on the fastball and plus armside movement to go with it. His 2/8 breaking ball is a bit flat right now. The spin is average, but the break is short. The changeup is his best pitch. He repeats his delivery well and fades it away from right handed hitter effectively. He has room to fill out and a pretty good idea with the ball in his hand. He needs to add some rhythm to his delivery and continue to work on getting stronger.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
