04/12/2015 - National Tryout - Chattanooga, TN Gaithers continues to show as an OF/RHP at the event and continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. In the OF, he plays with a lot of energy and takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he works to get behind balls more to play through with momentum to his target. At the plate, he shows a squared setup with hands working through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Hitting grade will improve as he works to get stride foot down sooner to work on time. Power numbers will improve as he works to use his lower half more aggressively and adds overall body strength. On the mound, velocity has improved as he topped out at 69 mph. Fastball shows a range of 67-69 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength, improves off speed stuff and works to throw more strikes.

He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength gained and works to throw more strikes. At the plate, his hitting and power grades have improved through an athletic setup. He works on time, showing loose hands through a level swing path. Hitting grades will continue to improve as he increases bat speed. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. In the OF, he shows an aggressive approach and takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he works to get behind balls more and plays through with momentum to his target.

07/31/2013 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training at Vero Beach (Ages 12-14) Austin is a primary RHP who also plays OF. On the mound he has a good mound presence. He gets to a good balance point, has a smooth delivery, and gets good extension. He works quick on the mound and throws strikes with his fastball and changeup. In the outfield he has sure hands, efficient footwork, and playable range. He gets behind the ball well and makes accurate throws to the cut off man. At the plate he has an athletic setup, smooth load, short stride, and has good balance. He makes consistent contact and has average bat speed for his age. Austin has a lot of potential and with more arm strength he should become a viable option on the mound and in the outfield.

On the hill, Austin has a long arm action, he keeps his eyes on target, and he works to his balance point well. He has level shoulders, good direction toward home, and he gets nice extension on his front arm action. In the OF, Austin has sure hands, playable footwork, and he attacks the ball aggressively. At the plate, Austin has a square / athletic set-up, a short / square stride, and good balance. He swings in good rhythm, he has a line drive approach, and he gets his lower 1/2 through. Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
