Official Scouting Report

  • RHP/CPosition Projection

07/27/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Austin continues to show improvements in his baseball tools. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.06. He gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy to his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He shows a solid setup and presents a low target. He communicates well behind the plate and shows good leadership traits. At the plate, he shows an open setup. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Swing path is level and he makes consistent contact through a line drive approach. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 77 mph. Fastball shows a range of 74-77 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with sinking action. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and is a solid team player.

01/15/2018 - College PREP - Tucson, AZ Austin is a young RHP/C with solid skills for his age. On the mound, Austin has a clean arm circle, on time separation, and he keeps his eyes on target. He uses his lower body, rotates through to his target, and competes in the zone. Mound effectiveness can improve with more extension, lengthening his landing, and added arm strength. Behind the plate, Austin has efficient footwork, agile movements, and he sits-in squarely. He has a loose arm action, gains some ground, and throws with carry to 2nd base. Showing a target sooner and gaining more ground will help catching improve. At the plate, Austin has an athletic set-up, a proper load, and decent bat speed. He can spray to all fields and has some pop to the pull side. A more still head, better rhythm, and more lower body will help hitting grades improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
