07/18/2014 - 2014 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Team One West Austin showed as a SS/RHP in his most recent Baseball Factory outing. Defensively, he got to the ball well and fielded with subtle hands in front. He was on-time to his fielding position and had a decent transfer to throw. Offensively, he hit with a quiet head and with plate discipline. He is a mechanical player that needs to add rhythm and lower half to aid in his hitting. On the mound, he threw two pitches for strikes from a short/compact delivery. He stayed strong with his front side and fielded his position well. In all - Austin is a strong player that has the opportunity to be solid when he adds fluidity.

01/17/2014 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Hale continues to show as OF/RHP but currently projects best in the OF for the next level. At the plate is where he shows best through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. At the event, he was 1 for 6 with a 2B. In the OF, feet are active as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He reads balls well off the bat and works to get behind balls, playing through well with momentum to his target. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he increases foot quickness. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 80 mph. Fastball showed a range of 77-80 mph and he hides the ball well. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape, flashing sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup showing good sinking action. Off speed pitch show potential of being quality pitches as he continues to improve. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is developed through a long toss program.

04/14/2013 - College PREP - Plano (DFW), TX Austin is a very solid prospect in the OF who also pitches. Defensively in the OF, he moves well and takes good angles to get behind the fly-ball well. His speed allows him to track balls down hit into the gaps and he makes accurate throws with carry to his target. As a hitter, Hale shows a square and tall setup with good rhythm which allows him to get into a solid loaded/launch position. Barrel gets to and through the zone quickly, resulting in hard contact and pop to his pull-side. On the mound this RHP has a 3-pitch mix coming from a low 3/4 arm slot. He has a short/quick arm action and works in-line toward his target. More lower 1/2 drive will help to increase velocity. By only being a 2015 graduate, Austin has an exciting future in the game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
