Official Scouting Report

  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Austin continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He has the versatility to play all 3 OF spots effectively. At the plate, he shows a squared set. He stands in with a solid/strong base and has fluid rhythm to load. Barrel delivery is short/quick with aggression (90 mph exit velocity) as he has strength in his swing driving ball to all fields. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 80-83 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late / sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for pitch with sinking action. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs. Control is outstanding as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Austin is a 6'2/200 lbs 2019, OF/RHP with solid tools. Defensively, he preps his feet well pre-pitch and takes good routes with energy to make plays. He works through plays and throws with carry to his targets. Offensively, he has a square/crouched setup and a fluid move to hit. He delivers the barrel on a level path and displayed some pull-side pop, with an exit velo of 89 mph. On the bump, he showed a three pitch mix, FB from 80-84 with tail, 10-4 CB from 66-67, and a CH from 74-75. He repeated his delivery well and stuck around the plate with all three of his pitches. His arm worked free and easy, and he has a high ceiling with continued growth and work. In all - Austin is a projectable two-way guy for the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
