12/27/2018 - 2018 Inaugural West Coast Winter Classic - La Verne, CA Austin is a coachable SS/OF prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the West Coast Winter Classic. In the field, Austin shows efficient footwork and flashes the ability to finish plays. He gets into and athletic position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a two-handed exchange and keeps his throws accurate to his target. Austin can improve defensively by long tossing to build up his arm strength. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance with comfortable hands. He gets into a simple load and takes a short swing to the ball. He rotates his core and shows plus barrel control, driving the ball to all fields. Taking a square stride towards the pitcher can help Austin improve as a hitter. With five more years to develop, Austin has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

09/23/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Fresno, CA Austin is a strong, athletic, 2-way player who plays OF and SS. In the OF, Austin has fluid/active feet, he presents his glove well, and fields in a low position. He moves well to the ball, has a clean exchange, and throws with consistency and momentum to his target. At SS, Austin presents his glove well, he fields smoothly, and has a quick exchange with accuracy to his target. Offensively, Austin has an athletic set-up, he loads well, and stands in well balanced. He has a direct barrel to the ball, makes square/level contact, and he uses his lower body. Austin can improve skills with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
