08/09/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Kannapolis (Charlotte), NC Austin is an athletic catcher who will graduate in 2023. Behind the dish, he sits in well with athletic actions and flexion tracking pitches into a soft mitt. He uses his body well through the blocking process but needs to work to get down sooner and improve his laterally movements. Transfer/exchange is clean will accuracy on his throws - pop times at 2.41. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. As a hitter, he has an athletic setup with active/loose hands to load. Swing is quick and creates consistent/hard contact with power showing best to the pull side. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. With 3 years to further develop, Austin has potential with time and room to progress his game.

01/27/2019 - Interactive Video Program - Myrtle Beach, SC Austin showed some nice improvements in his game during his last workout in Myrtle Beach. He lowered pop times behind the plate to 2.5 seconds and also increased exit velo to 66 MPH. Defensively, Austin has good size and athleticism, he presents his glove well and he sits in squarely. He tracks and sticks well, covers ground when blocking, and his exchange is quick and clean with a short arm action to 2nd base. Offensively, Austin stands in the box with a tall approach, he has a square stride toward the pitcher, and his balance is solid. He has a direct barrel to and through the ball and he taps into some lower body. Austin can continue to improve overall skills with work on the following.

Catching
1. Sit lower
2. Arm slot
3. Footwork
Offense
1. Lower body
2. Rhythm
3. Load

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
