06/23/2011 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 2
Austin showed similar abilities behind the plate in Omaha and also worked out on the mound. Defensively, Austin has a good set-up, nice lateral movements, and solid body control. His hands work well, he is quick to block, and he covers the 5 hole well. Austin gains ground and throws with accuracy to his target. On the mound, Austin has a FB touching 76 MPH and a long arm action. He has some feel for his off-speed, and he mixes them in well. Offensively, Austin has good balance, he stays behind the ball, and he lets it travel well. He tries to use all fields, he is able to create backspin on the ball, and he has some pop in his bat.
04/17/2011 - College PREP - Cedar Hill (DFW), TX
Austin is a young, lanky, 2-way player that catches and plays OF. Behind the plate, Austin has sure hands, fluid footwork, and he funnels the ball in well. He has good lateral movements when blocking, a soft chest, and he keeps the ball in front. Austin has a quick / clean exchange and he square his body well to his target. He throws with a short / quick arm with carry and consistency to his target. Catching skills can get better if Austin can sit lower to the ground, get to his feet quicker, and play more on the balls of his feet. In the OF, Austin has good glove action, soft hands, and fluid feet. He moves to the ball well, surrounds it properly, and he fields in a square position. Austin has a good crow hop, and throws with a long / loose arm with carry and consistency to his target. If Austin can avoid rushing, and quicken his exchange, OF skills can get better. Offensively, Austin has a tall / square set-up, a square stride, and he lets the ball travel into the zone. He has average bat speed, his swing is level, and he gets good extension to and through the ball. A wider base, improved timing, and more lower 1/2 should help hitting rise.
