Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHPPosition Projection

10/13/2019 - College PREP - Baltimore, MD Austin is a lean RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. Delivery is sound / repeatable as he shows good tempo through a strong balance point, allowing his arm action to work quick and free to the plate. Fastball shows a range of 67-69 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup and shows a feel for pitch. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are loose and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Power will continue to increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. With 4 years to further develop, Austin has potential with time and room to progress his game.

10/13/2018 - College Recruiting Day - Columbia, MD Austin is a C prospect who will graduate in 2024. Behind the plate, Austin sits in an athletic stance and tracks the ball into his glove. He moves to block on time and works to keep the ball in front of him. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a square stride. He tracks the ball well and works to barrel up the baseball. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Catching
1. Less steps to throw
2. Quicker exchange
3. Long toss
Hitting
1. Smoother load
2. Active hands
3. Lower half drive

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
