07/29/2013 - Under Armour Southwest Championships, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Austin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. He utilizes his athletic feet well in working in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.02. Throws are accurate, flashing carry but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, hitting have improved, now showing well above average through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball exploding off the bat when centered. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to stay inside the ball to utilize all fields. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a hard worker, coachable, and shows good leadership traits.

07/09/2013 - College PREP - Minneapolis, MN Austin is a tall, athletic catcher with a strong lower half that will graduate in 2014. He utilizes his aggressive / athletic feet well as he works in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show a range of 2.15-2.22 with accuracy / carry on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and he increases his foot quickness. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level as he continues to improve. At the plate, Ledin shows an athletic setup with balance and tracks the ball well. Hands are quick generating plus bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Austin has potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
