09/08/2018 - College PREP - Gambrills, MD Austin continues to show progress in his baseball abilities. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable through a strong balance point. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date. Fastball shows a range of 77-78 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed with slight sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. At 2B, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks ground balls in working to play through with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. At the plate, he continues to shine, through an open setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

05/20/2018 - College PREP - Gambrills, MD Austin continues to show as a promising future on the diamond. At 2B, he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active and he displays proper footwork as he plays through balls with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Throws are accurate with zip across the diamond. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are strong and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 73-76 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

03/11/2018 - College PREP - Bel Air (Baltimore), MD Austin showed improvements in every area of his game during his last workout with the Factory. He projects nicely as a 2-way player at SS and on the mound. Defensively, Austin has quick/simple actions, fluid/active feet, and he fields athletically. He has a quick/clean exchange and a loose/accurate arm to his target. On the hill, Austin increased velocity to 77 MPH, showing a good delivery, solid extension, and good control of his pitches. Offensively, Austin improved hitting and power grades to 48 and 45 respectively. He stands in athletically, swings in good rhythm, and has a short/quick swing through the zone. Austin makes square/consistent contact and hits hard to the opposite field.

12/27/2015 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 Austin continues to show steady play in his baseball abilities. At SS, he is a smooth / fluid fielder with hands / feet working well together as he plays through the ball toward his target. Presenting his glove more out in front will help to avoid getting the ‘in between' hop. Continuing to develop his foot speed will help to increase range in the MIF. Offensively, he works on time and uses his lower half well through a short / direct swing path. Hands work inside the ball as he utilizes all fields through a line drive type swing path. Power numbers will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. With 5 years to further develop, Austin has abilities with time and room to improve.

03/22/2015 - National Tryout - Bowie, MD Austin continues to work hard on his game. At SS, he shows active footwork and moves well into an athletic fielding position. He presents his glove out in front and gathers smoothly. He has a clean exchange and gains ground toward his target. With the bat, this RHH shows a square setup with rhythm in his hands. Swing isn quick through a level path as he connects and hits line-drives. Increased power will come with more extension through his finish. On the mound, this RHP has a 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm slot. He works to a controlled balance point and maintains level shoulders FB tops out at 62 mph as he throws strikes consistently. Breaking ball has 10/4 shape while changeup has slight arm-side run. Finishing out over his front side with extension will help to improve effectiveness on al pitches. Only a 2020 grad - Austin has skills with a lot of time to develop.

07/31/2014 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training at Historic Dodgertown Austin is a young athletic SS, who shows a strong knowledge of the game. At the plate he shows the ability to be a top of the order guy, with the ability to put the ball in play, and be a good situational hitter. Austin has a very basic setup and approach, with a good load, and showing good hands and rhythm. At short Austin shows good fundamentals, and a great knowledge of the position. To improve as a shortstop he needs to work on his lateral movement and foot speed, this will improve his range and allow him get to more baseballs.

03/16/2014 - Interactive Video Program - Bowie, MD Austin is a young, average sized, 2-way player who plays SS and RHP. Defensively, Austin has quick feet, good energy, and soft / sure hands. He has proper footwork, a good release, and a fluid throwing action to his target. On the mound, Austin keeps his eyes on target, he has good direction toward home, and he is around the zone with his pitches. Offensively, Austin has good balance, a square set-up, and he swings aggressively. He repeats his swing, has a direct barrel to the ball, and he squares the ball up well on the barrel of the bat. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
