  • OF/LHPPosition Projection

12/20/2018 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Austin shined once again at the event in Pirate City. In the OF, he displays fluid / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate he shows an open setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields and shows a feel for the barrel through a line drive approach. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 67-69 mph. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but slow arm speed, tipping off pitch to hitters. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and is a great teammate.

08/12/2018 - College PREP - Kannapolis (Charlotte), NC Austin is a lean LHP/OF who will graduate in 2019. In the OF, he displays fluid / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls but needs to play through more with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact with power showing best to the pull side. Power will continue to increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 71-73 mph. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard, resembling fastball. Stock on the mound will continue to develop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Austin has abilities with a lot of room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
