05/19/2013 - College PREP - Rochester, NY Austin is a RHP/3B who has a big and tall build. He projects best at 3B. At the hot corner, Austin works to get into a square fielding position and makes the plays. He works to the ground ball and plays through toward his target. Presenting his glove and fielding the ball out in front of his body will help to avoid getting the bad hops. At the plate, this right-handed hitter shows a square setup and short stride. He displays patience as he lets the ball travel into the zone. He shows to pull-side pop as he is a contact type hitter. Utilizing more of his lower 1/2 will help to increase power. On the mound, Mattison has a 3-pitch mix coming from a 3/4 arm slot. He works quickly and can sometimes be rushed. FB tops out at 71 mph and CB shows 11/5 shape. Increased arm strength will raise FB velo and improve overall mound effectiveness. As a 2015 grad, Austin has time and room to continue and improve.
