Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • C/RHPPosition Projection

12/27/2019 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic (Ages 12-14) Austin is a coachable C/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during the Winter Classic. Behind the plate, Austin sits in well and presents a good target to the pitcher. He makes a two-handed exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them accurate to the 2B bag. He creates good angles when blocking and tucks his chin well. Long tossing to build up his arm strength can help Austin improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance with comfortable hands. He gets his hands activated well and takes a level swing, leading to consistent contact and line drives. Austin can improve as a hitter by driving his lower half more. On the mound, Austin gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He accelerates through his release and stays inline towards the plate, finishing square to his target. Austin shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 60mph. Changeup sits from 54-55mph with arm side run. Lengthening his arm action can help Austin improve as a pitcher. With four more years to develop, Austin has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

07/19/2019 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition (Ages 12-14) Austin is a C/2B that shows good aptitude on the diamond. At catcher, Austin sets up in his primary stance and presents his hands well receiving the ball with a firm glove. His secondary stance is square, gaining ground in his pop with a clean exchange. Working on arm strength will help Austin's throws to second. Blocking, he has quick feet creating good angles keeping the ball centered showing plus ability. At the plate, Austin sets up in an open stance working hard to get the barrel on plane. He shows the ability to hit the ball to all fields. Keeping his hands closer to his body will improve Austin's barrel consistency. Austin shows some good, raw tools behind the plate with several more years to develop.

11/08/2018 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition in Arizona (Ages 12-14) Austin is a hardworking 2B/C prospect who has a versatile skill set. In the field, Austin plays with an aggressive approach and makes the routine plays. He fields the ball in a high position with deep hands. Austin has a long exchange leading into a restricted arm action. He throws from a high 3/4 arm slot and can benefit from playing through the baseball. Austin shows a good feed for double plays. As a right-handed hitter, Austin has a tall setup with his weight in the back of his stance. He has a load with a short stride as he partially uses his lower half throughout his swing. Austin has an upward swing path and is developing bat speed. He has a middle of the field approach and can spray the ball to all fields. Overall, Austin has a solid approach and potential to elevate his game with development.

07/29/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Washington, DC Austin is a thin 2-way player who catches and plays 2nd base. Behind the plate, Austin has active feet, soft hands, and he sits in low. He looks the ball in, blocks well, and gains some ground with accuracy to his target. At 2nd base, Austin moves well laterally, his feet play well, and he centers well on his body. He has firm hands and a loose/consistent arm to his target. At the plate, Austin has a good set-up, he tracks well, and can spray to all fields. He will need to work on the following for skills to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
