03/11/2018 - College PREP - Corpus Christi, TX Austin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.20 as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Hands are soft / sure and he sticks balls in the zone. He shows off his athletic abilities through the blocking process but will benefit by working to get his body down sooner. At the plate, he shows a closed setup with balance. Hands are quick and work to and through a level swing path. He flashes pop with power showing best to the pull side.

07/24/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Austin continues to show as a catcher with steady play in his baseball abilities. At the plate is where he shows best through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path, creating extension. He has strength in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat, mainly pull side. Hitting grade will continue as he works to stay inside the ball to utilize all fields. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program to lower pop times. Receiving / blocking skills show as playable tools as he continues to develop and get more reps. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a good team leader, very coachable, and works hard.

01/11/2015 - National Tryout - San Antonio, TX Austin has worked hard an improved in several aspects of his game. With the bat, this RHH shows a balanced approach with rhythm to load. Swing path is level as he connects with pop driving the ball with late explosion. Behind the dish, he receives with a soft mitt and sticks pitches in the zone. He has a quick/clean exchange and gains ground toward 2B, pop times as low as 2.39. Continuing to strengthen his arm and work a quicker release will help pop times to drop. Austin is a versatile player who still has a lot of time to develop.

11/16/2013 - Interactive Video Program - Houston, TX Austin is a 2-way player who can switch hit. At 3B, Austin has playable hands and feet, and he takes good angles to the ball. He good range to the glove side, his exchange is clean, and he throws with a medium arm action to his target. Behind the plate, Austin has a low target, he tracks the ball well, and his glove is sure. Offensively, Austin is slightly better from the right side of the plate. He has an upright set-up, a level swing, and he lets the ball travel. He gets extension through the ball, and uses his lower 1/2 well. Overall abilities can improve if Austin can work on the following.

Infield
1. Exchange
2. Play through ball
3. Soften glove
Catching
1. Blocking
2. Quicken feet
3. Avoid stabbing
Offense
1. Widen base
2. Level off swing
3. More lower 1/2

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
