08/09/2011 - College PREP - Bear (Wilmington), DE Austin is a tall, thin, 2-way player who pitches and plays 3rd base. On the mound, Austin has a loose arm action, a controlled balance point, and good glove side lead. He keeps his eyes to his target, he keeps his shoulders level, and he has good direction toward home. Austin works in good rhythm, he finishes off his pitches well, and he works down in the zone. His curveball is a well above average pitch showing 11/5 shape, with a sharp break. He showed the ability to throw that pitch for strikes. His control and overall delivery are polished. In the INF, Austin presents his glove well, he makes the routine play, and he keeps the ball in front. He flashes a good backhand, his exchange is clean, and he throws with accuracy to his target. Defensive tool grades can get better if Austin can field further out in front of his body and release the ball quicker to his target. At the plate, Austin has a tall set-up, a short stride, and good balance. He has good bat speed, direct hands to the ball, and he can spray to all fields. More live hands, better timing, and an earlier front foot can help spike offensive numbers. He currently projects best as a RHP for the next level and his offspeed pitches should serve him well.
