Official Scouting Report

01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Austin is a 3B/RHP who continues to show a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, he has strong/centered balance with fluid rhythm to load. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing (90 mph exit velocity) with the baseball exploding off the bat when centered with power showing best to the pull side. At 3B, he has plus lateral range (7.28 60 time), working from the ground-up with smooth actions. Transfer is quick as he fires strong throws zipping (87 mph velocity) across the diamond. He continues to show as an upside on the bump. This righty has a 3 pitch arsenal in which to keep hitters guessing. Fastball showed a range of 80-81 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with sharp break. Control is outstanding as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Austin is a 3B/RHP who is a prospect on the diamond. He did show on the mound for the first time at the event. At the plate, he has strong/centered balance with fluid rhythm to load. He takes an absolute hack with gap-to-gap pop (exit velocity = 84 mph). In the 3B, he has plus lateral range, working from the ground-up with smooth actions. Transfer is quick as he fires strong throws zipping (84 mph velocity) across the diamond. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 77-80 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. With 3 years to further develop, Austin has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to progress his game.

10/04/2017 - Arizona Sophomore Fall Classic Austin continues to progress and impress on the diamond. He is a true gamer who leaves it all on the field. As a hitter, this strong righty stands in with a purpose. He hunts FB's and looks to jumps on the first good pitch he sees. Hands are quick as he fires the barrel through the zone with the ball exploding off of his bat (exit velocity = 87 mph). Pitchers don't want to miss inside as Austin will get his hands through and pull the ball with power. He has great zone awareness proven by drawing 3 walks at the event. Defensively, Oliver wants the ball hit to him. He works around the GB, funnels smoothly and gains ground towards his target at 1B. Transfer is clean with throws that are on a line. He is versatile and has the ability to play anywhere on the infield. Austin also has the ability to get on the mound and throw strikes. Arm action is quick with a FB at 82 mph. CB has 11/5 shape with tight spin and sharp break. This 2020 grad has the skill-set that will make an impact in a variety of ways when he steps onto the diamond.

01/13/2017 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Austin is a young, 2020 SS prospect from Elkton, Maryland. As a SS, Austin has active pre-pitch movement and creates good angles to the ball. He gets into a square position and presents his hands out front to field the ball. He has a clean exchange and gets good carry on his throws across the diamond. As a hitter, Austin shows an athletic setup with a strong/solid base. He takes an aggressive hack with bat speed and connects with pop. He hits the ball where it's pitched and sprays the ball to all parts of the field. Oliver also showed his versatility by getting on the mound. He has sound mechanics and repeats well, pounding the zone with strikes. Austin has tremendous upside with a bright future ahead of him in the game.

08/07/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Wilmington, DE Austin is a thin, athletic shortstop prospect. He has natural hitting instincts with smooth rhythm at the plate. His setup is square and he stays connected between his hips and hands with an activated load and stride. He makes solid contact with good barrel accuracy and sprays hits to all fields. At short, Austin is a smooth fielder, playing through the ball from the right. His feet are active and he fields the ball square, with a clean exchange and momentum to his target. A long toss program will increase arm strength and allow him to stay on the left side. Austin is a very exciting prospect and we expect him to be a big prospect for the next level.

12/27/2015 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 Austin is a very talented prospect who makes things happen when he steps onto the field. At 3B, he is a smooth / fluid fielder with hands / feet working well together through the fielding process as he plays through balls well. Glove action is soft / sure as he presents well out front. Throws are accurate with life as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Offensively, he steps into the box looking to swing it. He swings on a short / direct swing path with plus bat speed. Hands work inside the ball and he uses his lower half helping to generate torque and create pop off of the barrel. At the event, he was 4 for 7 with a 2 2B and 3B. Austin is a gamer and has the makings of a special type player.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
