07/17/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Austin is a lean, athletic built SS/RHP prospect who has a versatile skill set. Offensively, Austin has an athletic, open setup with his weight in the front of his stance. He has a short stride and uses his lower half throughout his swing. He shows fast bat speed with a direct swing path. Austin consistently lands the barrel to the baseball producing hard contact. He is a line drive type hitter who hustles on the base paths. In the field, Austin plays with effective footwork and smooth actions. He presents his glove and fields the ball in an athletic position. He shows a nice backhand when needed. Austin has a clean exchange leading into a loose arm action throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. He plays with good momentum through the baseball showing strong, accurate throws across the diamond. On the mound, Austin works with a quick tempo and mixes pitches well. He has balanced, on-time mechanics throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. Austin has a clean arm action and extends through his release. He stays tall on his backside and shows good hip engagement to the plate. Austin has a controlled landing the proper stride length. He shows a strong front side glove. Austin works off his fastball and has a curveball with tight spin and good depth. Overall, Austin has knowledge and skill for the game giving him a bright future on the diamond.

02/18/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Tyler, TX Austin is a thin, athletic, 2-way player who plays SS and RHP. Defensively, Austin moves well to the ball, he has active feet, and good lateral movements to the ball. He keeps it in front, has a clean exchange, and throws with a long arm action with momentum toward his target. On the mound, Austin has a quick/clean arm action, he works in good tempo, and has a controlled landing with a proper finish toward home. Offensively, Austin has a square set-up, he tracks the ball well, and has a solid swing path. He has a direct barrel to the ball, makes consistent contact, and hits hard to the pull side. Austin can get better with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
