Official Scouting Report

  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

02/09/2020 - National Tryout Plus - Gainesville, FL Austin is an athletic and tall 2023 2-way prospect. At 3B, Austin is on time with his prep step, he creates good angles to the ball, and he has good angles to the ball. He has a clean exchange and makes accurate throws. At the plate, Austin has a quiet head, he loads his hands back into the drive position, and he attacks the inside part of the ball. He has a level swing path and looks to drive the ball to all fields. On the bump, Austin has a clean arm action, he keeps his eyes on his target, and he works fast. He has sink on his fastball, he has an 11-5 break on his curveball, and he has FB arm speed on his changeup. Austin is a competitor and we hope to see his progress in the future.

07/16/2019 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Austin is a coachable RHP/3B. At 3B Austin shows the ability to make routine plays. He gets into a good fielding position on time presenting his hands. He makes a clean exchange with a loose arm action and makes throws with carry. Working on his foot speed will help improve Austin's range in the infield. At the plate Austin sets up square with high and loose hands. His load is simple getting his foot down on time. He gets his swing on plane with the pitch showing consistent contact with a line-drive approach. On the mound Austin shows a two-pitch mix with a FB/CB combo. He gathers over his back foot separating his hands on time with a clean arm action. He strides in line with good length. Working on a long toss program and getting stronger will help improve Austin's overall game. Austin showed a great attitude in Pirate City and competed on the diamond.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
