02/12/2021 - Baseball Factory Opening Day Classic (HS - West) Austin is a 2021 RHP. Tall frame, long levers, with a strong and athletic build. Primary right-handed pitcher, pitches exclusively from the stretch. Planes out with good downward angle, maintaining good line to the plate. Has a long loose arm action in the back, releasing from a 3/4 arm slot. Fastball shows some run at 88-90mph. Has some feel for a low-80s slider with 10/4 shape and a curveball with medium break and 11/5 shape. Power pitcher who has the ability to over power hitters. Right-handed hitter that starts from a tall stance, with a simple load and line drive barrel plane. Short and quick to the ball with present bat speed, exit velo of 85mph. With continued growth and development, Austin’s body type and arm speed will play at the next level.

11/21/2020 - National Evaluation and Tryout - Irvine (Los Angeles), CA Austin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable as he shows good tempo through a strong balance point, allowing his arm action to work quick and free to the plate. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 88 mph. Fastball shows a range of 85-88 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late / sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his cutter with tight spin and short break. Control is outstanding as he throws strikes with all his pitches. At the plate, power potential is outstanding through an open setup. Hands are quick (87 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop.

10/07/2020 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Austin is a tall RHP/OF prospect who showed well during the Arizona Fall Classic. On the mound, this righty works through a smooth delivery with a quick arm. He shows an advanced two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 87mph with good movement. Breaking ball shows to be a real put away pitch, sitting at 75-76mph with late 11-5 break. In the field, Austin shows efficient footwork and works behind the ball well. He makes the routine plays and has a smooth exchange, making accurate throws with carry through his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and takes a centered stride. He gets his hands activated and hits against a strong front side, spraying the ball to all fields. Overall, Austin is a talented prospect who has the skill set to contribute at the next level.

01/12/2020 - National Tryout - Monterey Park (Los Angeles), CA Austin is a tall RHP/OF prospect who will graduate in 2021. On the mound, Austin gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works inline towards the plate and extends through his release, finishing square to his target. Austin shows a three pitch mix with his fastball sitting mid 80's. Breaking ball sits from 73-76mph with 11-5 break. Cutter sits from 68-70mph with good movement. Loosening his arm action can help Austin improve as a pitcher. In the field, Austin works through the ball well and makes the routine plays. He throws from a high 3/4 angle and works to keep his throws accurate to his target. Austin can improve defensively by getting into a more athletic fielding position. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and gets into his load well. He works to barrel up the baseball and sprays to all fields. Maintaining center balance throughout his swing can help Austin improve as a hitter. Overall, Austin is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
