Official Scouting Report

08/01/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Austin is a solid 2-way player with good all around skills. At 3B, Austin has efficient footwork, he fields athletically, and he plays through the ball well. He has a clean exchange and a short/accurate arm with strength to his target. On the mound, Austin works on a downhill plane, he has a clean arm circle, and solid glove side lead. He keeps his eyes on target and has a controlled landing toward home plate. Offensively, Austin has loose hands, he's short to the ball, and he stands in well balanced. He has fast bat speed, strength in his swing, and he hits hard to the pull side. Austin is a nice player with a bright future.

04/08/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Plano (DFW), TX Austin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. On the bump, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his loose, quick arm action to work well to the plate. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 78 mph. Fastball showed range of 77-78 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for pitch with sinking action. Control is solid as he locates to both sides of the plate. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to shine through an open setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. At 3B, he shows smooth clean actions. He displays proper footwork in creating proper angles in attacking and playing through balls with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground.

08/02/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Austin is an athletic, projectable (6'0"/165) 1B who worked very hard on his game during his time in Pirate City. He is a coachable player who can make adjustments quickly. With the bat, this righty steps into the box with a purpose. Starting from a tall/open setup he has rhythm to load, and jumps on pitches he likes, barreling the ball up and driving it back up the middle of the field. At the event he collected a couple of singles along with drawing 2 walks. At 1B, he gets into a low/athletic fielding position working from the ground-up. He presents his glove and fields the GB out in front. Austin shows his love for the game every time he steps onto the field. He brings a positive attitude which reflects in the way he plays. This 2019 grad has a solid all-around skill-set with upside as he enters his junior season.

02/19/2017 - College PREP - Tyler, TX Austin is a talented RHP/3B prospect who is well-built and graduates in 2019. On the mound, Austin pitches downhill with a balanced, on-time delivery. He throws from a high 3/4 slot with a loose, clean arm action. Austin extends through his release and stays square to home plate with a controlled landing. He does a nice job using his front side and finishing with his chest over his front knee. Austin has a sneaky fastball with good tilt and developing curveball. He also throws a deceptive changeup with sink movement. Offensively, Austin has a square, athletic stance with a firm front side and centered balance. He takes a smooth load with a short, square stride. Austin features explosive bat speed with a direct swing path producing hard contact. He has a line drive approach and the ability to drive the ball to each gap. In the field, Austin plays with active footwork and good body control giving him above average range. He fields the ball athletically with soft hands and a clean exchange. Austin has a short, loose arm action throwing from a high 3/4 slot. He plays with good momentum through his release and shows strong, accurate throws across the diamond. Overall, Austin has talent on both sides of the ball and good potential to be an impactful player at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
