Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/OFPosition Projection

Omaha National World Series - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Austin is a long, solid, 2-way player who pitches and plays OF. On the mound, Austin has good balance, a clean arm action, and he keeps his eyes on target. He has a controlled landing toward home, competes in the zone, and his CB shows nice tilt. If Austin can separate on time and finish more completely, mound effectiveness can improve. In the OF, Austin has athletic actions, efficient footwork, and a clean exchange with a loose arm action to his target. Offensively, Austin has a square set-up, a short stride, and good balance. He has a short/direct barrel to the ball, makes consistent contact, and he swings level through the ball. More load and lower body will help hitting spike.

11/25/2018 - College PREP - Pearland (Houston), TX Austin is an athletic RHP/OF prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. In the OF, Austin shows active footwork and covers ground well. He gets into a square position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws accurate with good carry through his target. Fielding in a lower position can help Austin improve defensively. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He is fluid getting into his load and takes a short swing to the ball, driving to the opposite field. Austin can improve as a hitter by driving his lower half more. On the mound, Austin works with a free arm and extends through on his release. He stays inline towards the plate and finishes with his chest square to his target. Austin shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 83mph. Breaking ball sits from 70-72mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 70-74mph with sinking action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Gathering to a balance point over the rubber can help Austin improve as a pitcher. Overall, Austin is a solid prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
