01/26/2020 - College PREP - Myrtle Beach, SC Austin ran his fastest 60 to date at 7.59 seconds and showed well at 1B and at the plate in Myrtle. In the INF, Austin is a tall target, he moves well to the ball, and fields low and squarely. He has soft/presentable hands, he makes plays consistently, and his arm is accurate with a quick release to his target. Lighter feet and continuing to add arm strength will help defensive skills continue to improve. On the mound, this LHP has good balance, he keeps his eyes on target, and he separates his hands on time. He works well to his balance point, shows good direction toward the plate, and competes in the zone. Austin will need to improve arm extension, finish, and add arm strength for mound effectiveness to improve. At the plate, Austin has good balance, a square set-up, and he swings in good rhythm. He has a fast/direct barrel, he hits line drives, and he gets good hip rotation through.

01/27/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Myrtle Beach, SC Austin is a talented LHP/1B prospect who has a versatile skill set. On the mound, Austin has balanced mechanics and he keeps his eyes on his target. He has on-time separation and throws from a high 3/4 arm slot. Austin shows a clean arm action and cuts off his release. He has a controlled landing at the proper stride length and is open to home plate. He can benefit from a better finish with his chest over his front knee. His fastball has good tail movement and his changeup is deceptive. Offensively, Austin has a square setup with a centered balance. He has a good load with a square stride as he partially uses his lower half throughout his swing. Austin shows fast bat speed with a direct swing path. He has a good swing path with quick hands. Austin is a line drive type hitter who has the ability to use all fields. In the field, Austin plays with active footwork and he makes the routine plays. He presents his glove and fields the ball in a square, athletic position. Austin has a clean exchange leading into a long arm action throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. His throws are consistent with good accuracy. Overall, Austin is a well-rounded prospect who has potential to take his game to the next level.

09/09/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Greenville, SC Austin showed a spike in hitting grades and an increase in radar velocity during his last workout in Greenville. Hitting spiked to 42 and 45 respectively showing good balance and bat speed, and a middle of the field approach. He swings on plane, gets good extension through the ball, and he has an engaged backside. On the mound, Austin's FB touched 72 MPH, he keeps his eyes on target, and finishes with his chest out over his front knee. He gets good extension on his pitches and competes in the zone. At 1B, Austin has good actions to the ball, he can pick it out of the dirt, and his arm is accurate to his target.

01/27/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Myrtle Beach, SC Austin showed as a LHP and at 1B for the first time at the event. At 1B, he displays smooth actions. Feet are aggressive and display proper footwork around the bag. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are loose and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 66-69 mph with tailing action. He maintains speed on his changeup with tailing action. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

12/27/2017 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Austin is a coachable 1B/LHP prospect who hustled all over the field during his time at the Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City. In the field, Austin fields the ball with firm hands and makes a clean exchange to throw. He throws from a high 3/4 angle with a short arm stroke and makes accurate DP feeds to 2B. Austin can improve defensively by getting into a lower, more athletic fielding position. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and takes a square stride. He keeps his head on the ball well and works to barrel up the baseball. Austin can improve as a hitter by working a smoother load into his swing. On the mound, Austin shows a deceptive delivery as he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose, clean arm action and extends through on his release. Austin has a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 70mph with sinking action. Changeup sits from 58-60mph with sinking action. Austin can improve as a pitcher by striding square towards the plate. With three more years to develop, Austin has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
