12/27/2018 - 2018 Inaugural West Coast Winter Classic - La Verne, CA Austin is an athletic and talented 2023 2B prospect. At 2B, he has an easy prep step, he has a good first step to the ball, and presents a low/early glove. He fields the ball in front of his body and creates momentum in his lower half with when throwing the ball. He needs to continue to build arm strength and improve his range. At the plate, Austin starts in a squared stance, gets his front foot down on time, and creates backside drive with his lower half. He needs to load his hands back into his drive position, attack the inside part of the ball, and stay balanced through contact. Austin has a middle approach but needs to continue to be aggressive on fastballs.

08/19/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Kapolei (Honolulu), HI Austin is a thin, athletic, 2-way player who plays 2nd base and OF. In the INF, Austin has agile movements, he fields low and athletically, and he funnels the ball in well. He presents his glove properly, his exchange is clean, and throws with consistency from a short arm action to his target. In the OF, Austin has a good idea, he reads the ball off the bat well, and goes back on it properly. He then gathers himself well and throws with momentum to his target. At the plate, Austin has a square set-up, good balance, and he tracks the ball well. He has a level swing path, makes consistent contact, and he uses some lower body. Austin can improve overall skills with work on the following.

Infield
1. Release
2. Attack aggressively
3. Footwork
Outfield
1. Play lower
2. Crow hop
Offense
1. Weight transfer
2. Bat speed
3. Lower body

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
