08/14/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Trenton, NJ Austin continues to show as a prospect on the diamond as he improved his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 3B, he displays smooth actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and squares up well with his body. Hands are soft / sure and presents well out front. Behind the dish, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 1.96 with accuracy and on line zip (87 mph velocity) on his throws. He shows a squared setup and presents soft glove well out front. He utilizes his body through the blocking process but needs to work on getting down sooner to improve skill. At the plate, he only showed as a RHH through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Power will continue to improve as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively.

04/07/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Bowie, MD Austin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the plate, pop time showed in the 2.13 range with accuracy and zip (81 mph velocity) on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He tracks the ball well and presents a low target. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to square up stance to improve lateral movement. At 3B, feet are active but needs to attack balls more and play through with his body. Glove action is clean but will benefit by presenting more out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a crouched setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a level swing path with gap-to-gap pop. Lower half works well through the swing and he shows a plus feel for the barrel.

08/20/2018 - College PREP - Plymouth Meeting (Philadelphia), PA Austin worked out at 3B and on the mound during his last workout with The Factory. Defensively, Austin has athletic actions, he fields in a square position, and he gets on top of his throws across the diamond. He has a clean exchange and an accurate arm with carry across the diamond. On the mound, Austin works in good rhythm, he has a clean arm action, and a controlled landing toward home plate. He competes in the zone and finishes in an athletic position. At the plate, Austin is a better hitter from the right side. He has quick hands, a live barrel, and pull side pop. From the left, Austin has a short swing, good rhythm, and he makes square contact.

08/14/2018 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Austin lowered pop times and improved hitting numbers during his last workout in Trenton. Pop times were as low as 2.09 seconds. Austin sits in athletically, his footwork is efficient, and he presents his glove well. He looks the ball into his glove well, smothers well when blocking, and throws with accuracy from a long arm action to his target. A sooner glove, not stabbing, and a quicker release will help catching skills improve. Offensively, Austin has a closed stance, a short stride, and good balance. He is a strong hitter with a simple swing and he makes hard/consistent contact.

03/11/2018 - College PREP - Bel Air (Baltimore), MD Austin worked out behind the plate and at 3B during his last workout. Behind the plate, Austin showed active feet, soft hands, and a low set-up. He presents his glove well, uses his body to block, and gets rid of the ball quickly with accuracy and momentum toward his target. At 3B, Austin has playable hands and feet, and he makes plays on balls hit his way. He keeps the ball in front of his body and has a short/accurate arm across the diamond. At the plate, Austin is a switch hitter who is better from the right side. He has decent bat speed, a direct barrel to the ball, and hits hard to the pull side. From the left he has okay balance and makes average contact.

11/09/2017 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City (Ages 14-18) Austin is a solid, athletic catcher who will graduate in 2021. At the plate is where he shows best through a tall, athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive approach. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through ha line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Behind the plate, feet are aggressive and active as he works in line to his target, through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show in the 2.32 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Glove action is soft and he sticks in the zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to get down sooner and improve his lateral movement. With 4 years to further develop, Austin has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
