11/01/2014 - 2014 Under Armour Showcase: Futures South Wilhite posted 6.79 in the 60 yard dash, an improvement of over a half second from what we saw in September. He once again showed standout infield arm strength, he really spins the ball well from a compact arm stroke. He moves well and has athletic actions up the middle, and is generally a talented and capable infield defender. At the plate, his hands work well to route the barrel inside and through - almost to the point of an inside out stroke. He maintains excellent balance, and translates hand-eye coordination and feel for hitting to barrel accuracy. Overall, a talented and athletic player with four advanced tools.

09/20/2014 - 2014 Under Armour Showcase: Futures East Wilhite has athletic proportions at 5-foot-9 and 160 pounds. His feet and actions are quick in the infield, and he showed good catch and throw skills. His arm strength is standout, the ball left his hand with great life and carried across the infield with ease from shortstop. At the plate, his hands worked well and he maintained good balance. He featured a line drive type stroke with very nearly an inside out type path. He showed advanced feel for hitting in game at bats, most notably in a quality two strike battle in which he spoiled a number of quality fastballs and sliders. He also showed a patient approach with plate discipline and an unwillingness to expand the zone, again hallmarks of advanced feel for hitting. On the mound, he showed three quality pitches and threw a lot of strikes. His 83-85 fastball jumped on hitters from a shortish arm stroke, while his low 70s breaking ball had tight spin. He threw strikes with a low to mid 70s change as well. Overall, a well rounded and naturally talented baseball player with usable hitting skills and excellent arm strength in the infield.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
