08/02/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Austyn is a well-rounded catching prospect who has a broad, projectable build and graduates in 2018. As a right-handed hitter, Austyn has a closed setup with his weight in the back of his stance. He has smooth rhythm with a good load and maintains direction with his stride. He has good timing and is developing bat speed. Austyn has the ability to drive the ball to the pull side with power. Behind the plate, Austyn looks the bar and has an effective setup. He plays the position athletically and moves in each direction laterally when needing to block. Austyn presents a low and effective target. He has a long exchange and throws from an over the top arm slot. He does a nice job blocking the baseball and has a feel for his backhand. Overall, Austyn has a good approach to the game with skill on both sides of the ball giving him potential to get even better.

04/02/2017 - College PREP - Greensboro, NC Austyn is a solid, athletic catcher who has a promising future behind the plate. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying outstanding hitting abilities with well above average power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive approach. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. Barrel accuracy is a plus with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Power shows best to the pull side and will continue to improve as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Behind the plate, feet are aggressive and active as he works in line to his target, through a clean transfer / exchange. He displays an athletic setup with soft hands that stick balls in the zone, displaying a soft glove. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process and is a wall through the plate. Austyn has a lot of potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
