06/26/2012 - College PREP - Bellevue (Seattle), WA Austyn is a tall and athletic catcher who spends some time at 3B as well. Behind the plate, he quick feet that work inline to his target and uses his chest well on balls in the dirt, but needs to create a stronger base to maintain his posture while receiving. In the infield, he has natural actions and creates good glove extension while playing through the baseball, but work on getting in a better position to receive the backhand. At the plate, he has natural actions and a smooth load that allows him to create plus bat speed. His offensive tools should continue to improve as he learns to maintain a quiet head throughout his swing. As a 2013 graduate, Austyn has the opportunity to continue to develop his skills in preparation for the next level.

12/27/2011 - Under Armour Recruiting Classic - 2011 Walker is a big and strong catcher who spends some time at third as well. Behind the plate, he sways well left and right, keeps the ball close when blocking, and uses his legs well when throwing down. His abilities behind the plate should continue to develop as he learns to get in a lower more athletic stance when receiving. In the infield, he has good glove work and fields the ball out in front, but needs to play through the ball. At the plate, he has strong hands a quick bat speed, but needs to create some extension through contact. With two more years of high school baseball remaining Walker has the opportunity to continue to develop his skills in preparation for the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
