06/30/2014 - College PREP - Erie, PA Avery is a young, 2-way player who catches and plays middle INF. Behind the plate, Avery has sure hands, good body control, and he takes good angles to block. He has some flexion, looks the ball into his glove, and has proper footwork to throw with accuracy to 2nd base. Catching can get better if Avery can quicken his footwork, add arm strength, and continue to get stronger. In the INF, Avery has quick footwork, he attacks the ball aggressively, and he fields out front. He plays through well and has good direction to his target. Softer hands, and a shorter arm action will improve INF skills. At the plate, Avery has good balance, he gets solid extension through the ball, and he can hit hard to the pull side. He will need to improve his barrel accuracy, loosen his actions, and tap into more lower 1/2 for hitting to further spike.
