Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/3BPosition Projection

01/17/2020 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Axton is an RHP/3B that graduates in 2023. On the bump, Axton shows a 2-pitch mix with a FB/CB combo. Working on long toss program and getting stronger will allow Axton to improve his arm strength. Pitching, Axton shows confidence on the mound starting staggered with a simple starter step. He takes a relaxed knee lift and separates on time as he works down the mound. He keeps his stride in line to the plate landing under control. Getting a little more extension out over his front leg. At 3B, Axton shows the ability to make the routine play. He works to field in an athletic and low stance with a firm glove making a clean exchange with 2-hands. His arm action is loose as he delivers the ball across the diamond with accuracy. At the plate, Axton sets up in a square stance with high and comfortable hands. He works hard to create rhythm and get the barrel on plane. Getting more reps to create more consistency will help Axton improve as a hitter. Axton will continue to develop his game as he grows and gets stronger.

08/18/2019 - College PREP - Dickinson, ND Axton is a scrappy RHP/3B that will graduate in 2023. On the bump, Axton shows a 2-pitch mix with a FB/CB combo. Fb shows some tail and the CB has 11-5 break. Pitching, he gathers over the rubber well as he keeps his head on the target as he works down the mound. His stride lands soft and he fires his back foot through. At 3B, Axton works hard to get into a good fielding position showing the ability to make the routine play to both sides of the glove. He fields with a firm glove making clean exchanges. Working on cleaner glove angles will improve his game. At the plate, Axton shows an athletic stance and goes back to start his load. He gets the barrel on plane and shows the ability to hit the ball to all fields. Axton is very young and shows a solid base to develop on.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
