Official Scouting Report

  • RHP/OFPosition Projection

01/18/2013 - 2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Bailey continues to impress scouts on the mound, showing even greater improvements at the Pre-Season All-America. His fastball continues to have run/cut with heavy action and he is showing even greater control of his off-speed pitches. Bailey's change-up showed the greatest jump, with arm side run and sink, while being able to locate. His long/free arm action and tall/projectable build will suit him well at the next level. Bailey even showed in the outfield with an ability to take good angles and move back on fly-balls. We look forward to following Bailey throughout his college career, where we believe his hard work and talent will take him to great lengths.

08/01/2012 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Chesser showed as a RHP/OF at the event but currently projects best on the mound where he has a huge upside for the next level. Arm strength has improved as he topped out at 87 mph. Fastball showed a range of 84-87 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball is a quality pitch that will get outs at the next level, displaying 10/4 shape with sharp breaking action. Command / control are a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches, locating to both side of the plate. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls but needs to improve foot speed and work to get behind balls more to improve defensive grade. At the plate, Bailey shows an athletic setup with balance. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. His future is on the mound where he will get a ton of attention from the collegiate coaches.

06/17/2012 - College PREP - Hoover (Birmingham), AL Bailey is a tall, lanky RHP that will graduate in 2013. Delivery is sound and repeatable allowing his arm action to work loose / free to the plate. He works through a strong balance point with on time separation and tempo. Fastball shows a range of 84-86 mph with solid arm side run. Slider displays 10/4 shape with sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a solid feel for with arm side run. He attacks hitter as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Chesser has an upside on the mound and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
