Official Scouting Report

  • 3B/1BPosition Projection

12/20/2016 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 Bailey worked hard and showed very well during his time at Pirate City. This power hitting 3B did a very nice job offensively. He shows a smooth/controlled approach as he waits for a pitch that he can drive. He picks up the pitch quickly and jumps on 1st pitch FB's connecting with pop and driving the ball to the gaps (2 doubles and a single at the event). Once on base, he is aggressive and isn't afraid to steal a bag or two. At 3B, he hustles into a square fielding position and gathers well. Transfer is smooth from glove to hand with accuracy across the diamond. Continuing to quicken his lateral footwork will only help to develop his skills defensively. Bailey is a hard working, coachable player who will make things happen with the bat.

07/11/2016 - College PREP - Sauget (St. Louis), IL Bailey has improved his baseball abilities since the last time we saw him. At the plate is where he has improved the most, now displaying outstanding hitting / power potential. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work through a direct / level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered, displaying gap to gap power. At 3B, defensive abilities have improved, displaying smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he moves well laterally. He tracks balls in and shows a soft / sure glove, presenting well out front. Increasing foot quickness will aid in improving range.

10/11/2015 - College PREP - Sauget (St. Louis), IL Bailey is a big-bodied corner fielder with athletic actions both offensively and defensively. At 3B, he has an active pre pitch sequence, stays low to and through the ball with a clean exchange. He makes the routine plays and throws from multiple arm slots. Fielding the ball more out front and working to gain arm strength will improve his defensive abilities. In the box, Bailey squares himself to the plate with solid lower 1/2 balance and rhythm in his hands. He uses the entire field with his direct hands and solid feel for the barrel. Loosening his grip and working to get extension will let him drive the ball to the gaps. In all, Bailey possesses some tools of the next level player and has time on his side as he enhances those.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
