06/14/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Houston, TX Bear is a C/3B prospect who will graduate in 2023. Medium frame, with broad shoulders, athletic build that is well-proportioned physicality throughout. Ran a 6.78 60-yard dash. Primary C, easy sit with simple mechanics and tracks ball to mitt very well. Sets up low, with an easy sway, working his thumb under and keeping balls in zone. Good direction to second base, with quick/clean transfers, and accurate/on-line throws. Throws from a high 3/4 arm slot, with a long arm action, and an arm velocity of 82mph with a best pop time of 2.0 seconds. At 3B, starts with active feet as he tries to create good fielding angles. Plays under the baseball, with a low funnel, and fields the ball out front. Clean transfers into a high 3/4 release point on accurate/on-line throws across the diamond. A right-handed hitter, hits from an athletic and open stance. Rear hip coil, with quick hands, and good balance at contact point. Short/direct bat path through the zone with late bat whip. Showed ability to barrel balls up and hit balls hard to the pull side during his round of BP. He recorded a bat exit velocity of 93mph off of a tee during his workout. With continued growth and development, we see Bear having a bright future on the baseball field.

10/18/2020 - All-In Membership - Tomball (Houston), TX Wilkins is a solid/projectable RHH catcher who shines on the diamond. With the bat, this RHH stands in with a tall setup, centered balance and a strong base. He has fluid rhythm to load, whips the barrel with + bat speed and connects with pop, showing good power to his pull-side (exit velocity = 90 mph). Behind the dish, he sits in well with athletic actions and flexion. He presents a low target, tracks pitches into a soft mitt and frames well. Transfer to throw is quick/clean with carry and accuracy to 2B - pop times at 2.10. Bear is a talented catching prospect who is one to keep an eye on.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
